Consignment percentage for designer handbags

Updated October 4, 2026

The usual range

The consignor's share is what they get from each sale. The shop keeps the rest as its commission.

What moves the split

  • Brand. Bags from the most sought-after houses sell fastest and earn the best splits.
  • Condition and extras. Dust bag, box, receipt and clean corners all raise the price, and with it the share.
  • Authentication. Checking every bag, or paying a service to, is a real cost that the split covers.
  • Returns. Luxury buyers expect returns, so shops usually pay consignors only after the return window ends.

A split tiered by price

Many shops give consignors a bigger share as prices go up, so their best pieces are worth bringing in. A common ladder:

Setting it up in Consignment Hub

Consignment Hub uses one split per consignor: your shop's default, or a share you set for that consignor. Each item keeps the split it was taken in at, and each sale is split by what the customer paid, after discounts and before tax. It doesn't change the split by price on its own, so shops with a ladder give consignors of high-value pieces their own share.

Questions

What split do luxury consignment shops offer on handbags?

Most use tiers: about 50% to the consignor on lower-priced bags, rising to 70 or 80% on the bags that sell for the most.

Why not one split for every bag?

A flat split either overpays on cheap bags or underpays the owners of expensive ones, who then sell elsewhere. Tiers keep both worth taking in.

When should handbag consignors be paid?

Once the sale is final, after the return window. Paying earlier means asking for money back when a bag comes back.
